Healthy Tips for Cooking in Your Cab

Cooking meals on the road is a great way to save money. It's also an opportunity to create healthy meals that can help you manage weight and feel more energized. When you cook your own meals, you have the chance to select and control exactly what goes in them, as well as the right portion for you.

Small Swaps

Fit Twists

Small changes that lighten meals without giving up the flavors you actually want to eat.

  • Cut the sugar — most recipes will turn out the same with 3/4 the sugar.
  • Swap sour cream for non-fat plain Greek yogurt.
  • Use 2% fat cheese instead of full fat cheese.
  • Look for at least 10% fat or less lean ground meat — this includes chicken and turkey!
  • Say no to skin — removing just the skin cuts the fat almost in half.
  • Slash the fat — if you are not baking, decreasing the butter is a quick way to cut fat and calories.
  • Switch white grains for whole grain alternatives including rice, breads, pasta, crackers and cereals.
  • Check canned food labels — look for low-sodium soups, broths and beans. Choose vegetables and fruits canned in water or juice.
