2023 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Highlights
Werner’s selection as the 2023 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree carrier was announced in August in conjunction with Kenworth Trucking Company. Four outstanding Werner professional drivers, Tim Dean, Jesus Davila, and Steve and Gina Jones, carried out this unique and challenging task safely, on-time and with contagious enthusiasm.
Their journey began November 1 with the tree’s harvest – a 63-ft Norway Spruce from the Monongahela National Forest – where Tim and Jesus then hit the road making dozens of community stops throughout West Virginia. During these well-attended community events, thousands of local citizens had the chance to view the tree up close, sign the special trailer and meet our drivers and other staff on the tour. Steve and Gina joined the convoy on November 14, hauling the 84-companion trees and hundreds of handmade ornaments accompanying the large tree. Together, the drivers made the final delivery of “The People’s Tree” on Friday, November 17, to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol with the official tree lighting ceremony taking place on November 28.
Werner was the largest carrier ever selected for this task and we are honored to have been part of this rich American tradition.
